This week, we had the honour of participating in the two-day Canterbury All Breed Cat Show. This event was nothing short of spectacular! Boasting international judges from Hong Kong, China, the United States, Australia, and of course, New Zealand, it was a melting pot of global expertise.
Our participation saw us showcasing three of our beautiful ragdolls. They all fared exceptionally well in the competition, making their way into the top 10. A true celebration of their breed's uniqueness and charm!
We're absolutely thrilled to share that our DreamAngel Blessing Blue Eyes won the best of breed across all six rings and emerged as the best overall kitten in two of the rings. This achievement underlines the quality of our kittens and their alignment with the highest standards of the breed.
Our beloved pet, DreamAngel Secret Kisses, who now enjoys a pampered life with one of our kitten owners, was the star of the show. Secret Kisses not only won three best in show awards but was also proclaimed the best cat in the pet kitten category. A testament to the nurture and love poured into our kittens, even after they've left our cattery.
During the show, we were awarded four Breeders Award of Merit, an acknowledgment from the judges that our efforts in breeding are paying off.
One of the fundamental reasons we participate in these shows is the opportunity to learn and better understand how we can improve our breeding program. Each judge, particularly those from overseas, brings a unique interpretation of the show standard. Having a deeper understanding of these interpretations allows us to avoid working in isolation and strive towards the ideal of every ragdoll enthusiast.
One judge shared a valuable piece of advice: "When looking for breed improvement, I will consider three factors in order of priority: first health, then temperament, and finally appearance". This insightful advice encapsulates our breeding philosophy and will serve as a guiding principle for our future endeavours.
The Canterbury All Breed Cat Show was a wonderful experience for us. It was not only fun but also enriching. We were reminded that we are part of a larger community striving to improve the Ragdoll breed (and other breeds as well). As a united front, we're working towards everyone's dream Ragdoll.
Stay tuned as we look forward to updating you about our next show. It's this continuous journey of learning, improving, and sharing that makes our participation in these events so rewarding.
Until next time, remember: we're working diligently to provide you with your dream ragdoll!
