One fascinating aspect of our cattery is the strong connection our cats have to the very roots of the Ragdoll breed, tracing their lineage back to Ann Baker's original Ragdolls. In this blog, we'll explore the history of Ragdoll cats and how Dreamangel Cattery continues this remarkable legacy.

Pedigree of of DreamAngel's Ragdolls:

The Origins of Ragdoll Cats

The Ragdoll breed was born in the early 1960s in Riverside, California, when Ann Baker, an experienced cat breeder, discovered a white, longhaired domestic cat named Josephine. Josephine possessed a calm temperament and a unique ability to relax completely when picked up, resembling the limpness of a ragdoll toy. Intrigued by these exceptional traits, Baker embarked on a mission to develop a new breed that would showcase these captivating qualities.

To create the Ragdoll breed, Baker selectively bred Josephine with other cats, including Birman and Burmese cats, as well as possibly other longhaired breeds with similar temperaments. Through careful and deliberate breeding, Baker successfully developed a cat breed characterized by its stunning blue eyes, semi-long silky coat, and an affectionate and relaxed temperament. Ragdoll cats are known for their large size and come in various patterns and colors, such as seal, blue, chocolate, lilac, red, and cream. The early cats in Baker's breeding program, including Daddy Warbucks, Fugianna, and Buckwheat, played a significant role in shaping the Ragdoll breed we know and love today.
